Message: This is Garrison's first Halloween, and following tradition, he wore the same costume that Emmett wore his first Halloween, which was also dad's Halloween suit. Surprisingly, the suit itself has held up quite well over the years.
We should pause here and tell you that Garrison doesn't like it when you take off his shirt and it get's stuck around his head. He also, apparently, doesn't like costumes that are a little big and sneak up around his face and make him feel like he's "stuck".
He only wore the costume long enough to get a few pictures, and then he began to wriggle his way out of it.
Following last year's tradition, we had chilly cooking on the stove all day with cornbread in the oven, a campfire for smores in the back yard, and both sets of grandparents over for dinner.
As soon as dinner was over, Emmett jumped up from the table and declared: "Alright I'm done eating, let's get our costume on and go trick or treating!"
For the past several months Emmett said he wanted to be Bolt from the Disney Movie Bolt.
Omi and Mom made a few trips to the fabric store in a mission to make Emmett his own Bolt costume.
To Emmett's delight, Omi made him a perfect Bolt costume complete with lightning Bolt, Bolt Name Tag, and even a Bolt leash.
Emmett would walk down the street and beg for someone to hold onto his leash and "take him for a walk."
These pictures didn't turn out so well in the dark, as the camera
focused on the reflectiveness of our safety vests, and didn't allow the
rest of the picture to be illuminated.
However, if you look closely, you can see Grandpa holding onto Emmett's (Bolt's) leash taking him for "a walk."
Almost every evening we go for a walk around the block for exercise in the evenings, and this one house in particular put up a lot of Halloween decorations. Emmett likes to call this house "the spooky house".
On Halloween the owner of the house had theatrical smoke/fog that covered his walkway leading to his front door and Emmett really enjoyed visiting this house.
Once we got back home from trick or treating Garrison was chillin with his Uncle Thomas (dressed as Teenage-Ninja-Turtle) with his costume at a safe distance away (not actually on him).
For a few final pictures, we wrestled him back into his suit....
which lasted for about 2 minutes.
We even got Emmett to join in the picture. Here you can see him holding onto his own leash.
Message: Saturday morning we got up and got an early start to our day so we could go to Purina Farms! It was a first for both of the boys. We were supposed to have a date with Will and Carrie, but will was sick; we decided we'd go anyway since we'd never been as a family, and the last time I was there was for a field trip my first year teaching. We told Emmett we were going to a farm to see cows get milked and dogs and cats.
We went to see the cow milking right away when we got there, and because we went to see that, we missed the dog show while we were checking out all the stuff at the barn. Chris said it was poor scheduling on their part, of course after the milking the kids were going to want to look around the barn, thus missing the dog show. Oh well, we still had fun.
Garrison like leaning over the ledge to pet the different animals in the petting area. In this pen there were 2 piglets and a chicken. Emmett told, "momma, I'm too scared of that chicken to pet him."
But, both of the boys loved to pet the bunnies they had out.
Emmett and I went crawling through the tunnels in the hay loft, and Garrison had to come check it out too.
Garrison didn't quite understand that the corn was for playing with, not eating.
See little brother, this is what you do, you push it with these tractors!
I had forgotten all about the hayloft with the rope swings until we got up there. Lots of kids like them, we had to wait quite a while to get a turn, but when he finally got his chance, Emmett thought it was pretty cool and didn't want to leave!

This weekend we went to Braeutigam orchards in Belleville IL and picked our own apples and pumpkins.
This was a great time to make our visit, because Garrison had two teeth come through in the last week, and one of his favorite foods to chew on is apple slices!

This past weekend was the Ameren 2010 Safety Fair.
Every two years, (or from what I can tell, this is how often it occurs) Ameren holds a family day all about safety in conjunction with weveral area businesses. The WHOLE family was in attendance. Since Grandpa works for Ameren and and Grandma were there and we took Omi and Grumpy with us. Grumpy got his picture taken with the boys and Louie the CFL. Garrison was not at all afraid of the giant costumed character, in fact from the pictures you can see how much he enjoyed it.
It was a day full of fun, food and freebies for all. Mommy, Omi and Emmett got to try Dippin' Dots ice cream for the first time--YUM! Emmett kept saying he was going to go for a ride in a bucket truck, but when he went to the 4th floor of the Ameren building in the glass elevator he decided heights weren't his thing. He did want to take a ride in the electric go-kart that the highway department had on display, but when we got in line their battery stopped working 2 people in front of us. He enjoyed watching the city and train demo by the Labadie guys Grandpa works with.
Everyone was tired at the end of the day, and Grandma still had to go help Aunt Kim get ready for her first homecoming! Emmett fell asleep on the way home in Omi and Grumpy's car, so he went to their house, where he kept on sleeping, so they took naps too, and they all would have stayed asleep if mommy hadn't called at 7:30 p.m. to see how they were doing. Mommy fell asleep at 8 o'clock right after Garrison did!
