Topic: Sitting in the Tile Box |

Message: This week we're getting carpet for our basement.
Before the carpet arrives, we wanted to take an opportunity to add another row of ceramic tile in-front of our fireplace and walk out door.
As dad was finishing the last row, Garrison took an opportunity to climb up into the tile box!

Topic: Snow Day! |
Date: 2011-01-11 20:24:47 |
Message: Today we got another snow storm in St. Louis. It was enough snow for them to call off school, and dad got to work from home today.
After lunch time Lizard came over to go sledding and play in the snow.

It was the wrong kind of snow to pack and make snowmen so we used buckets to pack it down tight and make snow-castles.

Then we broke out the sleds and made some trails in the yard.

And then it was time for snow angels.

Topic: Cutting Down A Christmas Tree |
Date: 2010-12-11 12:59:43 |
Message: On Friday dad took a vacation day from work, and we went out in search of a Christmas Tree.
The past couple of years we've used a fake tree, and thought it might be fun to go cut down our own real tree.
After a bit of time searching online for the nearest tree farm, we located Pea Ridge Forest in Hermann, MO. Pea Ridge Forest is a family run business with a shared business
philosophy, strong work ethic and commitment to quality trees.
We packed up the kids in the van, and headed off towards Hermann.
Once we got there we parked and talked a bit to the woman inside the barn about their trees, which hills had which variety of trees, and then we borrowed a saw and off we went.

We decided on picking out a Scotch Pine tree, and headed towards the valley where they were growing.
We looked at hundreds of trees, and finally settled on the one below.

Then came time to cut down the tree. If you've never used a hand saw to cut down your own tree, it's harder than you'd think!

In the picture above, Emmett was watching with a careful eye, and then we took turns cutting since it made our hands tired.

In the picture above, Garrison got to get down in the dirt and play a bit while dad did some cutting.
Finally it was down!
We drug it back up the hill, where the staff helped us to shake and wrap the tree and get it to our van where dad tied it to the roof.

Before we left, we couldn't resist getting our family picture taken on a wooden bench outside of their barn. Emmett, like most of his pictures recently, refused to smile for the camera. :)

Once we got it home, we set it up in the tree stand, and Emmett used his scissors to help cut the wrap off of the tree.

The next morning, Garrison sat next to the tree just feeling it's needles.

Then we found the box of lights and decorated the tree with lights.
This afternoon we'll finish by putting our ornaments onto the tree.

We think going to cut down our own tree might just be our new family tradition!

Topic: Garrison Discovers a Lady Bug |
Date: 2010-12-07 09:58:24 |
Message: It's already winter and you wouldn't expect to find Lady Bugs around, but Garrison managed to find one while he was sitting on the kitchen floor.
He chased it around his pant legs for a few minutes, quite entertained, before finally catching it and squeezing/squishing it.
