Topic: New Patio Door
Date: 2009-04-15 21:12:15
Message:
A few weeks ago we decided to frame in our basement so we could run electric and hang drywall.

After several trips to the Home Depot, we had enough 2x4s to get the framing job done. See that blog entry here.

It was then we realized we couldn't get the drywall down the stairwell leading into the basement, and the picture window in the basement didn't open wide enough to pass drywall through it.

Enter next project: replacing picture window with sliding glass patio door.

A concrete saw, hammer drill, bobcat and many wheelbarrows full of dirt later, we excavated the yard and foundation to expose where the new door would go. Oh did I mention sledge hammer too?

After a very long (3) day weekend, the door was finally in place and secured.

Next step: acquire gravel to lay patio foundation outside the door and settle on a hot-tub color. Just kidding. Or am I?

Message: A few weekends ago we took Emmett down to feed the fish at the Maramec Spring Park.

Emmett got to get his own fish food from the food machine.

Then we got to go feed the fish with his dad....

and his mom.

Then we walked throughout the rest of the park and found some neat exhibits.

Topic: lawn mowers
Date: 2009-04-01 21:38:20
Message: Living in a subdivision has a few added benefits, such as Friday trash day, or as I like to call it, look-for-the-good-stuff-other-people-are-tossing-day. My latest find was a bubble blowing lawn mower--Emmett has been very interested in the lawn mower Chris got from Grumpy and watching him fix it and then use it to mow the lawn. So I knew when I found it Emmett would have a treasure from someone else's trash.

When we got home Friday night and gave him the mower, he had to have Chris's tools to fix it like daddy had done. Poor guy didn't get to use it Saturday because of the rain and cold--however he did say he would put on his hood because it was cold, but then he realized that it was "drizzling" and that he couldn't go out in that. Sunday he couldn't wait to get out and "mow". When Grumpy came over he made him "mow" too with daddy's lawn mower.

If Emmett's mower could mow, we'd have the shortest lawn with funny zig-zag patterns cut in it.

Topic: Emmetts New Sandbox
Date: 2009-03-21 09:36:43
Message:
Grumpy's gift to Emmett at Christmas time was a new hand-made sandbox.
Emmett's been waiting for the warm weather so the sandbox could be brought over to our house and filled with sand.

Last weekend the weather was warm, and the sandbox made the trip over to our house.

Emmett played in the sandbox for hours! Some nights we even have to get a lantern out just so we can sit and play in the box after dark.
